We recognise that we are facing a major challenge: finding leaders capable of planting significant city centres churches.
The shortage of such leaders across Europe is a growing concern, with many evangelical networks reporting dwindling numbers of potential candidates, while colleges and seminaries are enrolling fewer students each year. There is a great leadership crisis looming on the horizon for the evangelical church in Europe, and addressing this issue is crucial to sustaining the growth we’re seeing.
This observation has led to the development of the Timothy Fellowship – a new programme designed to gather leaders with strong potential for city-centre church planting, to introduce them to the vision of planting significant churches in Europe, and to help them discern whether they are called to it or not. The Fellowship provides a structured pathway from church or secular roles through to church planting, through inspiration, relationships, internships, and education.
Empowering significant leaders to catch a vision and discover their potential for church planting is one of the best ways we can serve the future of the church in Europe.

Our Story
In 2025, we launched our first round with 16 Fellows.
It has been a great joy to see the group grow, learn together, and take first steps towards potentially planting a church. About two-thirds of the Fellows will move into Phase 2 of the Timothy Fellowship, taking funded internships at church plants for the next two years, while beginning to prepare for their own plant.

Alex Deuscher
Programme Director
Alex Deuscher spent 10 years planting and leading a church in Berlin before handing over the church’s leadership to his successor, and working with City to City Europe for a few years. He has since launched and currently leads Quiet Heart Journey, an initiative to serve leaders in Europe in the area of spiritual leadership formation. Alex joined the EC Team in 2024 and serves as our Timothy Fellowship Programme Director.
